Ephesians 5:19-20
19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In His infinite wisdom God created something in us that loves music. I have yet to meet anyone that isn’t moved, in some fashion, by music. For some of us it may be one of Mozarts classics. For some it is a favorite hymn. Others may be moved by one of Third Days new hits. Regardless of the style of music you prefer we cant escape that fact that music touches our souls.
Some of us may feel this connection more than others, but it is there, in all of us. You may not have been raised in an environment that was music friendly, but when that special song comes on the radio, or the worship leader starts to sing your favorite hymn you feel it. We all do.
The only thing that is different from person to person, beside musical tastes, is how much do we allow the music to move us. As I think about all the times I have suppressed my emotions during a particularly emotional praise and worship service I am torn. Do I dishonor God by not letting the gift of music move me completely? Am I being respectful of the others that I am worshiping with when I control my emotions?…Hard to say, but I must admit I lean towards the dishonoring God line of thinking. If God gave me a gift, then I must let that gift move me the way God wants it to move me. If it makes me cry…so be it.
I would be interested to hear your comments.
I pray we can all give thanks to God for the wonderful gift of music, and the way the music stirs our souls.

I was in need of comfort as I read the verse for today, and, as usual, the music playing was like a background for what I felt as I read. Tears had come to my eyes while I was reading, so when I read your words, I actually laughed, because I was just thinking of how I often felt like crying at times, but didn’t if there were people around. I have never been one to hide my emotions, but I find myself “hindering” them when others are present so as not to be labeled “weepy” or “dramatic”. Maybe I am, maybe you are right, and God made me that way. Perhaps the tears are not put there as an attention drawing tactic, but as an outward display of love for Him.
